Research Committee | Guidelines for Research Grants
One of the major aims of IAFPA is to foster research in the area of forensic phonetics and acoustics. It was in this spirit that a number of original, valuable and promising projects were supported during the last years. IAFPA is happy to announce that for 2004/2005 funds will again be available to members for this purpose.
Amount of grant
IAFPA's yearly funds are limited. Therefore, IAFPA will not grant funds for large-scaled projects lasting for several years, but concentrates rather on smaller (pilot) projects with a well defined limitation both in content and time. The research committee has therefore decided to set a grant ceiling of €2.000 (~ £1,400). It is the wish of the research committee that research associates are paid reasonable wages according to the conventions of their country (e.g. ~ €11/hour for western European countries). However, funding cannot cover conference expenses, university overheads or personal fees for applicants (exception: contracted researchers).
Criteria for grant promotion
Any submitted research application within the fields of forensic phonetics or acoustics will be considered by the research committee. Research topics regarding current questions in the fields are especially welcome. For validation of submitted applications, the research committee acts upon the following criteria:
- The Principal Investigator must be a Member of the Association.
- The project shall bear a clear relationship to forensic phonetics and/or acoustics.
- It must be clear from the application that applicants are familiar with the state of research as concerns methods or previous results of their research topic.
- Breakdown of expenses should be clear and reasonable
Procedure of project application:
To apply, please fill in the downloadable application form (if you have problems downloading, opening or displaying the application form please contact Philip Harrison) and send it to the chair (by e-mail and by post or fax) either on or before September 30th or March 31st. Notification of acceptance will take place on January 31st of the following year for the autumn applications and at the IAFPA Annual Meeting in July for the spring applications.
Final Report
A final report of the results of the project is to be submitted within two years of the project's start.
